"For many years now I've wanted to write this book, but it was hard to write about such dark and depressing subjects. As political tensions boil and climate shifts continue to magnify everywhere, I've concluded that my voice is needed. Now that I've made it to my forties and many disasters that were once only threats have actually manifested, I feel prepared, not paranoid. You could say my family and I even keep cozy when disasters strike. I certainly still have my anxieties and concerns, but I feel grounded in preparedness.

Although hundreds of manuals and guidebooks on disaster survival have been written, much of them lack a certain something I think is important. To be quite frank, most survival books don't even mention tampons unless they're for stopping a bloody nose, and they all seem to have a massive focus on defending one's home with an arsenal of advice on arsenals. These books are great and have pertinent information, but I wanted to read something that is current, a bit feminine, and from both a holistic and realistic perspective.

I want the emotional maintenance in a “sh*t hit the fan” (SHTF) scenario to be addressed. What about the kids, the animals, the plants, the anxiety? How about a doomsday wine recipe and more shallow matters like how to save the couture in the closet or your favorite décor? Why not suggest fun battery-powered lights to set some good ambiance in your shelter? If I have to hunker in a bunker and pee in a bucket, it better be as cozy as possible, right? So I wrote the book myself, and I hope you enjoy it."
